Is it depressing that I know what book that’s from just for that like bit of text?
Has anyone ever chewed food and then just spit it out? I do that with crunchy things, pretzels, cheeze-its ect…
I converted to Islam July 28, 2011 at the age of 16, I’m now 17. Though my father was never and is still not okay with it I always thought my mother was behind me on my new found faith, until today. Before I found Islam I was trying to get into the model business, my mother had shelled out a bit of money on modeling classes and headshots. Today she told me I had to submit my pictures to modeling agencies; this is how it went:
Respectfully I asked her “What pictures could I possibly send?”
She responded with ”Any old picture will do”.
“But mom, all my hair is showing in those photos and it is against my religion to show my hair, I cannot send in those pictures”
“I have spent $1,000 for you to do this, you are going to send in those pictures.”
“Mom please, how about I pay you the money? I would rather pay you back then go against my religion.”
“It is not against your religion”
“Mom, yes it is, that is why I wear a hijab.”
“No, you are Christian, you are not Muslim yet.”
“Huh? I converted 8 months ago what do you mean I’m not Muslim yet?”
“You are only 17, until you are 18 you cannot change religions.”
~~~~~~~~~~~
With that last remark I couldn’t respond, I was speechless. When did your age determine what was in your heart? When I first thought about converting, I thought I would wait until I was 18, just because I thought it was easier. I couldn’t do it, I couldn’t wait that long, so at 16 I converted because in my heart I was a Muslim, it has nothing to do with age.
